NEWS- MAY 2011 Western States Hound Show:

Picture

LAH Huntsman and 'Nicasio'

LAH Huntsman Matthew C and 'Nicasio' win Grand Champion Foxhound!!

The 2011 Western States Hound Show started and ended well for Los Altos Hounds. Matthew won the huntsmen's horn blowing contest on Saturday evening and took home the Grand Champion (Best in Show) trophy at the end of the day on Sunday.

Matthew started his dominance in the first class Sunday morning with Nicasio winning the Cross-Bred Foxhounds, single dog-unentered class. Our Nipper and Nitwit took third and fourth. The fun had begun.

Farmer followed soon after and won the English Foxhounds single entered dog class. He later was reserve champion in the English Foxhounds championship class.

Captain and Renoir placed in the crossbred single entered dog class.

We broke for lunch and returned to the show ring for the bitch classes. Catkin was second in crossbred entered bitch, Fable second and Donatella fourth in entered English bitch. Maxim and Magpie won best couple of entered crossbreds. Magpie went on to get reserve champion in the crossbreds, and Hopeful and get came second in the progeny class

The excitement for LAH returned in the Championship classes. Nicasio won Champion Crossbred Foxhound and then was declared GRAND CHAMPION FOXHOUND. Judge Jake told us it is unusual for an un-entered hound to be Champion but he was the best moving hound at the show. He loved his balance, presence and the way he covered the ground. What my uneducated eye saw was a shy hound in the first class who transformed into a willing hound floating across the show ring chasing biscuits masterfully thrown by Matthew.

Grand Champion Nicasio shown by Huntsman Matthew C and his son Charlie with huge trophy, accompanied by SYVH members Bonnie and Mia. (See attached photos of this group and of Nicasio.)

Congratulations and thanks to our Huntsman Matthew! Next time we go to a Hound Show, come join the fun!

Gleefully submitted,

Annie
