LAH Hunter Pace - May 12 at Piers Ranch, Portola Valley

On Saturday, May 12, Los Altos Hounds held our fifth and final Hunter Pace event of the 2011-2012 season at Piers Ranch in Portola Valley. A week ago, the grass was so long when we went to flag the course that we thought we were going to have to call the whole thing off! But one call to land-owner, David Murdoch, ensured that the grass was mowed between fences and we couldn’t have had a more successful event! David is also responsible for building many new jumps including a down bank, cabins, and a couple of exotic log jumps. Thank you, David!Twenty-eight riders enjoyed the lake views for what ended in a nail-biting close finish for High Point rider of the day as well as High Point Champion of the season. The riders were comprised of 6 LAH members, 19 adult guests and 3 Junior/Pony Club/LAH Members. Thanks also go to John Michael Durr from Isola Stables & Glenoaks Equestrian Center for introducing some new guests to our sport!

The day started with the Hunter Pace Classics: The Hilltopper, Introductory Pace & Single Rider over the Beginner Novice Course, followed by the Singer Rider over the Novice Course, finishing with the traditional Hunter Pace.

As always, we can’t do these things without our volunteers – Tom Gilheaney put in extra time, measuring the new course on his smart phone, flagging and un-flagging. Thank you, Tom! Encouraged by Marian Honeyman, Mindi and Keith Baxter added extra style with their tail-gate party, and welcomed back our former Masters Wes and Cindi Martin. Tents, iced drinks and fancy box lunches made it a day to remember.
